GFR Inc. is classified an “essential service”. We provide food support and aid to farming families suffering on-going financial stress as a result of the 2016/17milk price crisis; those impacted throughout 2019 by the worst Victorian drought in decades and the devastating East Gippsland bush fires in 2019/20, and now, right on the heels of the fires - the COVID-19 pandemic.
Covid-19 and the resulting social distancing rules put in place by the Victorian Government have been a disruption to GFR Inc., as it has been for many in our Communities. Early in 2020 our food stocks were depleted in assisting hundreds of fireaffected farmers in East Gippsland; and replenishment was hampered due to panic buying by the public and the resulting supply restrictions put in place by Foodbank, wholesalers and supermarkets. We are currently striving to re-stock our shelves as quickly as we can and mid-May 2020, we will re-commence monthly hamper deliveries to all farming families registered with us.
In addition, GFR Inc. will continue to support where we can, bush fire affected communities in East Gippsland - working with local community groups on the ground.
Gippsland Farmer Relief Inc’s commitment to its vision of providing regular farm household assistance, along with linking farmers to existing welfare and support services remains front and centre of its efforts.
